These handmade butterfly shaped cards are decorated with pressed flowers and they’re so easy to make! You’ll find a downloadable template for the butterfly pattern below. Don’t have access to flowers? There are so many other variations that you can make! Non-pressed dried flowers would also work just as well or you can choose any small nature items that you have access to. These cards would also be lovely painted with watercolor paints. If you’re using pressed flowers you’ll need to press them in a flower press or between parchment paper between the pages of a heavy book. They can also be dried and pressed using an iron or microwave as a quick alternative.
Materials:
– heavy paper
– butterfly card pattern – download here
– pressed or dried flowers (check out the pansies in the shop!)
– mod podge or school glue (or make your own biodegradable homemade glue by mixing equal parts flour or cornstarch and water)
– pressed flowers
How to make pressed flower butterfly cards:
1. Download the printable pattern here. Print at 100%. Cut pattern out and fold along dotted line. Fold your heavy paper (we’re using watercolor paper) in half as well. Line the pattern up along the edge fold on top and cut both halves at the same time.
2. Paint a thin layer of glue on one side of the card using a paint brush. Attach your pressed flowers by placing them on top and gently pressing them down. Make sure you do not place flowers over the fold line. After the first layer is dry, gently paint a second layer of glue over the flowers and let dry.
