Here’s a fun and easy autumn-inspired ghost-shaped candle for Halloween that you can make using white beeswax sheets and any ghost-shaped cookie cutter that you already have. I’m using the white beeswax sheets from this kit in the shop. This is a great technique for making candles with children of all ages and they make great gifts. We’ll be making a few of these to give to friends this month as well as other little candles that we’ve made using the scraps accumulated from the sheets. We use this technique year-round to create different themed candles every season.
Materials:
— 1-2 white beeswax sheets (depending on the size of your cookie cutter)
— cotton candle wick
— decorating beeswax sheets OR modeling beeswax (for the eyes and mouth)
— ghost cookie cutter (large / mini)
Instructions for making ghost-shaped beeswax candles
Step 1: Cut out ghost shapes using your cookie cutter
Use your cookie cutter to cut eight ghosts out of your honeycomb beeswax sheets. Attach four ghosts together by aligning the edges and pressing together gently, using the warmth of your hands to help with the adhesion of the wax. You’ll do this twice to create two halves.
Step 2: How to attach the wick
Stand one half of the ghost candle upright and cut a piece of cotton wick that is about 1” longer than the total height. Center the wick and press gently into the wax to attach. Align the edges of both halves together and press together gently to attach.
Step 3: How to add the wax decorations
Use your decorating beeswax sheets or modeling beeswax to sculpt and create the eyes and mouth of the ghost. Attach those pieces by pressing them on gently.
Leftover beeswax sheets
Save all of your beeswax sheet scraps! Use any leftover strips to make tea lights, or use them to create decorations for other candles by cutting out shapes using wax cutters like these. If the beeswax sheets that you are using are 100% beeswax they can also be melted back down and the beeswax can be used for other projects.
How to use your beeswax candles
These candles must be placed on a dish or a holder when burning them and make sure that they are securely standing upright before lighting. Beeswax sheets have a bit of tack, so if you apply a little bit of downwards pressure, they will stick easily to the dish. Always trim candle wicks to approximately 1/8” before lighting. Never leave a burning candle unattended and children and pets must be supervised at all times when burning candles.
