Decorating beeswax egg candles with colorful wax for Easter is a really easy and fun activity for all ages! This would be a great activity for younger children to work on their fine motor skills, and older children will enjoy creating more complex patterns on the eggs. Since decorating and modeling wax are 100% beeswax, they’re completely safe to add to candles and will not change the way that the candle burns. The wax cutter tools are totally optional, but I highly recommend them. I made toadstool and snail versions of these candles for Elliot this year, so I’ll show you below how to create those specific designs.
Materials:
– beeswax egg candles
– decorating wax sheets and modeling wax
– wax cutters (circle and flower)
Instructions for decorating beeswax egg candles for easter
How to create the toadstool designs
Use the circle wax cutter to cut circles out of your red decorating wax sheets. Cut each circle in half. These will be the caps of your mushrooms. Use white modeling wax to form the stem of each mushroom. Place on your egg candle and press gently but firmly to attach. Add small pieces of white modeling wax to each mushroom cap for spots.
How to create the snail design
Roll out a long piece of modeling wax and create a coil for the shell. Place this shell on your egg candle and press gently but firmly to attach. Roll out a piece of white modeling wax to form the body of the snail. I also chose to add tentacles. Use the flower wax cutter to cut flower shapes out of your decorating wax sheets. Place on your egg candle around the snail and press to attach.
How to use your egg candles
The decorating and modeling wax decorations that have been added to your candles are made of beeswax so they are safe to burn as normal. Place your egg candle on a dish or in a ceramic egg cup to burn them. If you have your candles displayed with any decorative dried items (such as moss or dried flowers) when you are not using them, make sure that you remove any of those flammable items before lighting your candle. Never leave a burning candle unattended and always trim candle wicks to approximately 1/4” before lighting. Children and pets must be supervised at all times when burning candles.
