These miniature baskets are made from a walnut shell and they are absolutely magical! They make wonderful additions to fairy gardens or are lovely given out as gifts for friends. Most recently, we made these as May Day baskets. I like to fill these with flowers cut from our Spring garden or other little nature treasures. I usually use pine needles that I’ve braided together for the handles but you can substitute with twine, ribbon or other natural fiber materials.
Materials:
– walnut shell halves
– pine needles (or other fiber/material for the handles)
– glue
Instructions to make mini walnut shell baskets
Step 1: How to create the handles
To make the handles for the baskets, braid your strands of pine needles (or other natural fibers) together and secure the ends with glue. If the natural fibers that you’re working with are dry, you can soak them in water beforehand to make them more pliable.
Step 2: Assembling your walnut shell baskets
Attach your completed handles to the walnut shells using glue and let them dry completely. Fill your mini baskets with flowers! I’m using flowers cut from our spring garden. I try to choose varieties that dry well.
