These mini button book notebooks are the tiniest notebooks I’ve made thus far. They’re so sweet and perfect for tiny drawings, paintings or for attaching tiny botanical treasures. They’re most definitely as cute as a button. I absolutely love making small notebooks (some of my personal favorites are these walnut shell notebooks and matchbook notebooks!) For this one, I’m using an accordion fold for the inside papers so that they’re super easy to make and are really fun to open! I made this book into a tiny garden treasures book for my son– adding small pressed botanicals that we grew in our garden.

Materials:
– a pair of buttons
– scrap paper (I recommend using a medium weight drawing paper or watercolor paper)
– glue
Instructions to make button notebooks
Step 1: How to fold your paper
Make a mark on your paper that is slightly less the width of your button. Using the mark as a guide, fold the paper back and forth into equal sections using an accordion fold to create the inside pages of the book. You’ll want to make sure that you have an even number of total pages so that the accordion fold opens correctly. The book that I made has 6 pages.

Step 2: How to create your pages
Center your button over the folded pages and trace around it. Cut out the pages with a sharp pair of scissors, making sure to leave a portion of the seam intact on both sides. I also made the overall dimensions of the pages slightly smaller than the button covers so that they don’t spill over the sides.

Step 3: How to assemble the book
Glue the underside of the first page onto the inside of the front cover, then the underside of the last page onto the inside of the back cover. A standard tacky glue works well for this. If you’d like to tie your book shut, you can place the ties in-between the paper and the button, or even tie them through the button holes!

A little garden journal filled with tiny treasures from our garden. The botanicals are pressed and dried to preserve them, and attached to the pages with mod podge. You can also use a diluted school glue.

So, these are so adorable! I am wondering, though, how you use them? Do you keep them in a purse? That would get ruined, I think. Do you keep them in a bowl on the coffee table? Will anyone who visits care? I personally like things like this, but do I know anyone else who likes such things? Truly, what do you do with them?

I think if they make you happy, mission accomplished. And I bowl full of button buttons … the smiles write themselves.
