These little needle felted ghosts are so much fun to make for Halloween. I use a metal cookie cutter as a form to create the ghost shape which makes the process really quick. It’s my favorite method for teaching children or those new to needle felting as well. You can use any cookie cutter that you already have, and either wool roving or batting. Make a few of these and string them up on a garland for a sweet Halloween decoration!

Materials:
– wool roving or wool batting
– felting needle (with holder / needle only)
– felting mat
– ghost cookie cutter

Instructions for needle felting a ghost
Step 1: How to prepare your fiber
Pull off a few small sections of wool roving or batting and gently pull the fibers apart to separate them. Stuff the roving inside of your cookie cutter until it is packed tightly. Start with a small amount- you can always add more if necessary.
Step 2: How to needle felt
Use your felting needle to stab the wool all over until it looks fairly compacted on the first side. Remove the cookie cutter and peel the ghost off the pad. Flip the ghost over, place it back inside of the upside down cookie cutter and felt the underside.

Step 3: How to finish your ghost
Remove the cookie cutter and use your felting needle to shape the ghost. When the ghost is finished it should hold its shape and feel firm. Use black or brown roving to add the eyes and mouth.
