Bean and seed mosaics are still a favorite craft in our household, and it’s always one that I recommend when someone is looking for something easy to do with their children. We made our annual leaf ghosts last week, so naturally we needed to make some ghost seed mosaics to go with them! This is a great natural craft that can be done with any cardboard that you already have (I like to use the thinner chipboard for more intricate patterns, like that type that cereal boxes are made of) as well as any dried beans, seeds or grains that you already have in your pantry. For these ghosts we are using great northern and black beans, but you can certainly use any colors that you’d like or substitute with small nature items. It’d be lovely to create patterns on the ghosts and there is a lot of room for creativity. You can download a pattern for the ghost shape below under the material list. I love seeing your projects— keep tagging me in your pictures so that I can share them with the community!
Materials:
– cardboard
– dried beans and seeds
– school glue
How to make bean and seed mosaics:
1. Trace and cut a ghost shape out of recycled cardboard. Draw your own, or download the printable pattern above. Print at 100% when printing the pattern.
2. Attach dried beans/seeds or grains to the cardboard cutouts using school glue. We used white beans for the base and layered black beans on top for the eyes and mouth.
3. Let dry! Display as-is, attach several to a string to make a bunting or attach a long stick to the end of one to make a wand.
