Bean and seed mosaics are a staple craft in our household and there are so many different variations that can be made for each season and holiday. This is a great low-waste craft since you can recycle any cardboard that you already have as well as any dried beans, seeds or grains in your pantry. We usually have a good assortment on handā some of our favorites to craft with are pinto, great northern, split peas and mung beans. We made these snails last month and Iāve really enjoyed seeing everyoneās renditions! Weāre starting to add butterflies to our nature studies so of course we had to also make some. I had a lot of requests for a pattern for the snails, so I created one that you can download below that also includes the new butterfly shape. I hope that your children enjoy making these and please keep tagging me in your projects so that I can share them with the community! I love seeing them!
Materials:
– cardboard
– dried beans and seeds
– school glue
How to make bean and seed mosaics:
1. Cut snail and butterfly shapes out of recycled cardboard (download the printable pattern above). Print at 100% when printing the pattern.
2. Attach dried beans/seeds or grains to the cardboard cutouts using school glue.
3. Attach small sticks or nature items for tentacles (snails) or antennae (butterflies)
3. Let dry! Display as-is, attach to a string to make a bunting or attach a long stick to make wands.
