Here are instructions to make a standard eight-point Waldorf kite paper window star. We love making these year-round, but they are especially magical during the holidays! It is one of my favorite Waldorf traditions to prepare for the transition into winter. There are a lot of fancy ways to make these but I love the classic ones because they’re easy for everyone to make. We make different variations during the holidays, like these DIY kite paper star gift tags for Christmas. In Waldorf schools you will see these adorning windows of classrooms– it’s just magical. You can choose any color combination(s) that you’d like (the stars are just as beautiful when made in a single color!) and this is a fun and easy project to do with children. You’ll need eight pieces of kite paper, and you can use the sheets as is or cut them into smaller sizes. The kite paper that we use measures 6.5″ and I cut it into quarters when making my stars.
Materials:
– kite paper
– glue stick
Waldorf kite paper window star tutorial
Step 1: How to Fold Each Section
Begin with eight pieces of kite paper. I use sheets that measure 6.5” and I like to cut them into quarters. Begin by folding your first piece of kite paper in half. Open the paper and fold in half the opposite way. Open the paper completely and fold one corner into the center.
Repeat with the remaining corners until all corners have been folded into the center. Fold two opposite sides towards the center line to complete a star point. Repeat for the remaining 7 pieces of paper.
Step 2: How to assemble the star
Once you have all 8 points completed, begin assembling the star by applying a small amount of glue and attaching the first point to the second point. The side with the folds should be facing the back.
Continue attaching each point until your star is complete. Use a small dab of glue to attach to a window!
